PRESERVING PRICELESS MEMORIES.  We know it’s Election Night, but before settling in to watch the results, come on down to the library on Tuesday, November 6, from 7:30-9 p.m., while David G. O’Neil of Story Trust, will present a program entitled “Preserving Priceless Memories—How to Create a Lasting Legacy for Your Family.”  Come and learn how to create a precious oral history for your family.  David is a personal historian and founder of Story Trust, a Newton-based publisher of memoirs and personal histories for families, family-owned businesses, and organizations.  Since 2007, he has published over a dozen memoirs and produced scores of oral histories and video biographies.  David holds a B.A. in economics from American University and an M.A. in theology from Harvard.

DRIVING FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES.  Donna VanHelene, Occupational Therapist at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Braintree, will help answer the questions "Is my teen or adult child with a disability safe to drive?" and "What can be done to help a person with a disability be a safer driver?" She will help navigate the legal issues regarding driving and explain individual versus physician responsibilities in determining conditions that may impair driving.  Monday, November 26, at 7 p.m. in the library’s Raytheon Room.

FALL AUTHOR VISITS.  Investigative reporter for 7News in Boston and award-winning mystery author Hank Phillippi Ryan will be here on the evening of Tuesday, November 27, to talk about her new book, The Other Woman.  Wayland's own Juliette Fay will be at the library to talk about her latest book, The Shortest Way Home, on Sunday afternoon, December 2.

EMPLOYMENT WORKSHOPS WITH GARY GEKOW.  The Employment Workshop on “Cover & Thank You Letters” with Gary Gekow that was originally scheduled for October 30 had to be canceled due to no electricity at the library after the storm.  That program will now be held on November 13.  On November 20, Gekow will lead a workshop on “Interviewing.”  We will soon announce a date for the last workshop on “Salary and Benefits Negotiation.”

LIBRARY BOOK GROUPS FOR ADULTS.  The library has two book groups.  The next meeting of our evening group, usually led by Andy Moore, will be on Monday, November 5, at 7 p.m.  We will be discussing The Art of Fielding by Chad Harbach.  Our Noontime Book Group will meet on Friday, November 9,at noon and will be discussing Old Filth by Jane Gardam.  The noontime group is facilitated by Sandy Raymond.  New members are welcome at these groups, and the book lists can be found in the “Readers’s Corner” section of our website.  For more information, call the library at 508-358-2311.

Parent/Child Book Group.  After a great start, our new parent-child library book group will have its second meeting on Monday, November 19, (7-8 p.m.).  It’s a group for children in 4th and 5th grade, with a parent that will discuss a different book each month. The book we’ll be talking about this month is The Sixty Eight Rooms by Marianne Malone.  Each month, the group decides together what next month's book will be.  Led by Children's Librarian Pam McCuen.  For more information, call Pam at 508-358-2308.

CHILDREN’S POETRY WORKSHOPS.  Our next monthly poetry workshops for children ages eight and up will be on Wednesday, November 28, from 7-8 p.m.  Children will listen to, read, and write poetry.  Led by Children’s Librarian Pam McCuen.

LEGO CLUB!  The next monthly meeting of our LEGO CLUB for children ages 6 and up will be on Wednesday, November 21, 3-4 p.m.  This monthly program is an opportunity for children to use their imaginations to make fabulous creations out of Legos!  We could use more Legos, so please drop off your no-longer-needed SMALL Lego blocks in the Children’s Room. 

SVNP ANNUAL PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBIT.  The Sudbury Valley Nature Photographers will have their annual fall exhibit during November in the library’s Raytheon Room.  It features recent work by 17 local photographers, encompassing a wide range of nature subjects.  There will be a “Meet the Artists” reception for the public on Saturday, November 10, 2:30-4:30 p.m., which will include several brief “gallery talks” by some of the exhibiting photographers, beginning at 3:15 p.m. 

DROBNIS PHOTOGRAPHY.  We welcome back Murray and Gertrude Drobnis for their seventeenth year exhibiting their attractive photography in the library foyer during November.

NEEDLEWORK/HANDWORK GROUP.  Our Needlework/Handwork group meets on the first Wednesday of each month from 10-11:30 a.m. in the Raytheon Room.  It’s a group for people to work on needlework and handwork projects together.  For more information, contact Ann Moses at annmoses@verizon.net or 508-358-7113.  Dates for the rest of this year are:  Nov. 7, Dec. 5, Jan. 2, Feb. 6, Mar. 6, Apr. 3, May 1, and June 5.

GREAT DECISIONS 2012.  The next Great Decisions meeting will be on Friday, November 16, from 9:15-11:30 a.m. and the topic will be “Energy Geopolitics.”  The energy markets have been shaken by the instability of Middle East oil and the vulnerability of nuclear power.  Moreover, developing countries like China are becoming bigger energy consumers, while energy producers like Russia see the opportunity to widen their influence.  In this changed landscape, how will the U.S.’s energy needs affect its relations with other nations?
