Wayland Patch 10/1/12: Fujita Asks for New Lawyer in Murder Trial. Nathaniel Fujita appeared in Middlesex Superior Court this morning wearing a blue button-down short and slacks. The 19-year old from Wayland is accused of last year killing his ex-girlfriend and fellow Wayland resident Lauren Astley. He has been held without bail in the Middlesex House of Correction in Billerica following his arraignment in superior court last August. In court today, he told Judge S. Jane Haggerty that he doesnt "feel comfortable with [William Sullivan] representing me.".

Wayland Patch 10/1/12: Fujita's Family Hopeful He Will Remain with Current Counsel. The man accused of murdering Wayland teen Lauren Astley last year has been granted two weeks to retain new counsel after he announced his desire to part ways with his current attorney in court Monday. Family representative George Mattingly said Fujita's family "does not agree with this decision" and is hopeful Fujita will ultimately retain his current counsel. He said the decision seems to be have been made this morning.
