Wayland Patch 8/4/12: Wayland High Alum Coaches Great Britain to Gold, USA to Silver. On Saturday, two of Alberto Salazar's trainees, Mo Farah of Great Britain and Galen Rupp of the USA, earned gold and silver medals respectively in the 10,000-meter track and field event at the Olympics. Salazar today trains elite long-distance runners from his training facility in Oregon. In the mid-1970s, Salazar was competing on the track and field team at Wayland High School, from which he graduated in 1976. He was inducted into the Wayland High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006. According to his Hall of Fame webpage, Salazar still holds the Wayland school indoor records in the 1,000-meter (2:19), mile (4:19.2) and two-mile (8:53.8) events.
