Weeds choke local lakes

Wayland Town Crier 7/23/12: Weeds choke local lakes. On bright, beautiful summer afternoons, Michael Lowery often heads for the deck of his Wayland home overlooking Dudley Pond, plops in a chair and stares out at the undulating water, glistening gold from the sun’s rays.
“I look across the lake and see kids in floats,” Lowery said. “I see kids swinging off of trees. It is classic stuff, and it is so gratifying to see all that, I just can’t tell you.”
But for the past 21 years — and tens of thousands of dollars later — the battle has been ongoing to preserve that scene. The enemy? An unwelcome weed.
