WBUR Here and Now 2/3/12: A Conversation With Running Great Alberto Salazar. (with Audio) Alberto Salazar is one of the top distance runners in American sports history. He got his start at Wayland High School in Massachusetts, where he was a state cross country champion. He went on to earn All American status at the University of Oregon, won three straight New York City Marathons and also the 1982 Boston Marathon. He qualified for the Olympics twice and finished 15th in the marathon in the 1984 games in London. Today, Salazar runs the Nike Oregon Project, coaching some of the top runners in the nation, including Olympian Dathan Ritzenhein. Here and Now‘s Alex Ashlock spoke to Salazar this week in Boston, and asking him first about the marathon team the U.S. will send to London this summer.
