Freight House missing boards recovered

The loss of old boards of the Wayland Freight House (see this article) turned out to be temporary.  Boards that were removed to be replaced with new siding had 1915 markings on the inside surface, which told of one day in the life of Engine #1979 making a fast round trip from Mystic Junction (Somerville) to Sudbury and back on the Central Massachusetts Railroad line.  The names of those aboard and the "World Record" time from 5:00 AM to 9:15 AM were recorded.

The missing boards had been rescued by those who planned to re-use the old wood.  With local publicity and some sleuthing on the part of Historical Commission members all but one board was retrieved.  It is the hope of some Historical Commission and Historic District Commission members to frame the retrieved boards and re-mount them on the inside wall of the refreshed Freight House once the carpentry and repainting have been completed.
