ESOL Tutor Training
The Wayland Library has sponsored an ESOL Program for 19 years that has trained over 200 tutors. We have a waiting list of learners who need help, but currently lack a corresponding number of volunteers willing to tutor them a couple of hours a week. Training classes for new tutors have been scheduled at the library on five Wednesday evenings starting October 19, 6-9 p.m. and continue on the following evenings: October 26, November 2, 9 and 16. No teaching experience or foreign language ability is required in order to be a tutor. We will train you, painlessly, even enjoyably, to offer this service to someone who really needs help. You will work one-on-one with adults who desire to improve their abilities in spoken and written English. For more information, please call Ginny Steel at 508-358-7517.

We ask that parents and care givers participate in the storytime activities with their child or children. For more information, contact the Youth Services Department at 508-358-2308.

EVENING BOOK GROUP
Model Home by Eric Puchner is the first selection of this year’s evening book group. Booklist called it an “exceptionally well plotted, caustically funny, and bracingly compassionate novel of family lunacy and love.” Our first meeting will be Monday, October 17, at 7:00 p.m. Copies are available through the library. For information about our evening group, contact Andy Moore at 508-358-2311.

CLIFFORD THE BIG RED DOG IN WAYLAND
The UFund Start U Reading Series is bringing Clifford the Big Red Dog to the Wayland Library on Tuesday, October 11, at 10:30 a.m.  Children will participate in a story time, acting out books with their favorite big red dog. Parents are invited to bring their cameras for photos of their children with Clifford. The UFund Start U Reading Series was created seven years ago to emphasize reading as a fun and recreational activity, using literacy and laughter as the main components. Instructors help children act out books to develop their imaginations by actually participating in the story the book tells.
