High school soccer’s elite gathers to kick cancer

Taunton Daily Gazette 10/3/11: High school soccer's elite gathers to kick cancer. One of the more popular sports clichés is the one that says that athletes should play for the name on the front of the jersey, not the one on the back. On Saturday, however, players from the 12 high school boys soccer teams that gathered at Concord-Carlisle High School were encouraged to play for the names on the backs of their jerseys. The reason why they were encouraged to do that was because on Saturday the names on the backs of their jerseys were not their own. Each player, along with each team’s coaches, wore a jersey with the name of someone they knew, a friend, a relative, a loved one, who was affected by cancer.
