MOVING PLANET, Wayland to Walden to Boston, September 24

On Saturday, Sept. 24, be part of a worldwide event, Moving Planet, and join other Waylanders – and thousands of New Englanders – in sending a positive, unified message to leaders at all levels: It's time to get serious about moving beyond fossil fuels and addressing climate change.

Here's our plan for this historic day in the making. Please join us at any point along the way!

3:50pm: Moving Planet: New England rally at Columbus Waterfront Park in Boston. A peaceful, festive rally with music, speakers, and creative displays of what New England is doing to move beyond fossil fuels.

2:20pm: "Muster" at Concord MBTA Station and take the 2:34pm train into North Station with friends from neighboring towns.

1:15-1:45pm: Gather at Walden Pond for a brief "Thoreau moment." Hear short passages from Thoreau's work, inspiring and relevant to the day, read by Wayland writer and former Boston Globe "Ideas" editor Wen Stephenson (@wenstephenson) and special guest John Hanson Mitchell, longtime editor of Mass Audubon's Sanctuary magazine and author of numerous books on New England natural history, including Walking Towards Walden. We'll meet in the grassy open space overlooking the south EAST end of the pond, alongside Rt. 126, by the picnic tables.   Here's Wen's essay on why he is walking to Walden.

10:45am: Walk to Walden. Join us and other Wayland friends for the beautiful 5-mile walk up Rt. 126 to Walden Pond. We'll start from the parking lot at Peace Lutheran Church (107 Concord Road), adjacent to the Upper Mill Brook Conservation Area. Pack a lunch and picnic at the pond before the Thoreau reading.
