Weston and Wayland teens make most of ‘mitzvah’ projects

Wayland Town Crier 9/19/11: Weston and Wayland teens make most of 'mitzvah' projects. On a family trip to Israel, Isabella Laufer of Weston visited the Mount Herzl Military Cemetery in Jerusalem and learned about the non-Israeli soldiers who have died defending Israel. This visit had such a profound impact on Laufer that she decided to support Israeli soldiers for her community service project (called a “mitzvah project”) as part of her bar mitzvah. Laufer ran bake sales and handmade jewelry sales to raise enough money to “adopt” a troop in the Israeli Defense Force through an organization called “A Package From Home.” Her hard work and creativity ensured that soldiers who do not have family in Israel or who are severely wounded received care packages.
