Wayland Patch 8/23/11: The Earth Moves Under Wayland’s Feet. At least a couple of locations in Wayland felt the earth tremble today when a 5.8 magnitude earthquake struck at 1:51 p.m. The U.S. Geological Survey reports the quake’s epicenter was about five miles west of Mineral, Va., which puts it about 530 miles southwest of Wayland. According to postings on the wall of the Wayland Patch page on Facebook, the quake could be felt at Liberty Pizza in Cochituate as well as on the north side of town at Russell’s Garden Center.
