‘Camp for a Cause’ in Wayland raises money to help Haitians

Wayland Town Crier 7/21/11: ‘Camp for a Cause’ in Wayland raises money to help Haitians. Bread of Compassion held a benefit on July 8 in Wayland called “Camp for a Cause,” in which local volunteers aimed to draw attention to the plight of Haitian people still living under tarps and tents after the 2010 earthquake.

Cars driving by on Route 30 witnessed dozens of tents and crude tarps on the property of Celebration International Church as campers enjoyed good Haitian food and fellowship.
A musical concert was featured by Haitian artist Evens Gregoire and his band as they entertained the crowd with their latest hits.

Each camper donated $100 per tent site to help Bread of Compassion build shelters and send medical personnel to the tent cities in the outskirts of Port-Au-Prince, Haiti. They raised over $5,000.

Joe Sapienza, founder of Bread of Compassion, has taken teams to many of these tent cities. Bread of Compassion sends tradesmen to erect secure structures and medical personnel to care for those living in these cities.
“I am organizing two medical teams and need nurses and doctors who have a desire to work in a mobile clinic,” said Sapienza.

One team is set for September 12-20, 2011, and the other for March 12-19, 2012. If anyone wishes to join a team visit their website to find an application.
