Laughter, tears at memorial for slain Wayland teen

Boston Globe 7/17/11: Laughter, tears at memorial for slain Wayland teen. Dozens of coral ribbons lined the way to Lauren Astley’s memorial service yesterday morning. In a service bookended by recordings of Astley’s own alto-soprano singing, Astley’s family, friends, and church leaders recalled a young woman whose world revolved around music and the people she loved. Her loved ones were in abundance yesterday, as two churches and a lawn filled with mourners from this tight-knit community. The service was seen on video by those who also gathered in nearby Trinitarian Congregational Church. As they eulogized her, alternating between laughter and tears, those who knew Astley tried to make sense of her death.
