Town of Wayland 7/12/11: Support for Citizens Coping with the Tragic Death of Lauren Dunne Astley. At the suggestion of elected officials, community leaders, and professional staff, we have compiled information related to the tragic death of Wayland teen Lauren Dunne Astley. A parent meeting will take place on Tuesday, July 12 at 7:00 p.m. at the Wayland Middle School. The facilitator will be Dr. Mark Kline, associate director at the Human Relations Service, Wayland’s community mental health agency. Dr. Kline, a psychologist, has worked with Wayland students, families and schools for many years. He will outline key ways parents can help their children cope with the tragic events that unfolded on July 3 and 4.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Lauren Astley will be held on Saturday, July 16 at First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church in Wayland Center at 11:00 a.m. It is requested that those who are attending the memorial service park at St. Ann’s Church, 124 Cochituate Road (Route 27). Continuous shuttle service will start at 9:45 a.m. from St. Ann’s to First Parish Church. Limited parking will be available at the Wayland Town Building, 41 Cochituate Road, and Trinitarian Congregational Church, 53 Cochituate Road. Parking will not be available at First Parish Church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Lauren Dunne Astley Memorial Fund. The fund will promote dynamic educational programs, “particularly those in the areas of the development of healthy teen relationships, the arts and community service,” according to an announcement from the family. Contributions may be mailed to the Village Bank, 62 Boston Post Road, Wayland, MA, 01778.
