Wayland Town Crier 6/30/11: GPS distraction caused Wayland collision, police say. A Wayland man using a GPS device ran a red light and crashed his car into an SUV, police say, a collision that caused the SUV to flip onto its roof. David Schneider, 20, said he was typing an address into his GPS on Tuesday at 5:15 p.m. when he ran the red light at Commonwealth Avenue (Rte. 30) and Rice Road, Police Chief Robert Irving said. An SUV driven by David Osteen, 52, of Wayland, was going through the intersection at the time. The SUV rolled onto its roof, but Osteen was not hurt. Schneider had a minor cut on his left hand, but he did not need medical attention, Irving said. Schneider will be cited for impeded driving and a red light violation.
