SVT Mourns the loss of co-founder George Lewis

Sudbury Valley Trustees 5/14/11: SVT Mourns the loss of co-founder George Lewis. Sudbury Valley Trustees and the conservation community mourn the loss of George Lewis, who died on May 14 at the age of 88. George was one of the seven co-founders of SVT. From its beginning in 1953 to the present year, George remained an active member and volunteer. He seldom missed an SVT event and participated in outings far into his ninth decade. An astute and curious conversationalist, he enjoyed representing SVT to the public by manning tables at various events. In 2003, George authored, “Sudbury Valley Trustees: 50 Years of Conservation”, a wonderful book that narrates the history of our organization.

George grew up in Wayland and raised his children there, memorializing these experiences in “Growing up in Wayland.” We extend our sympathy to Martha, Pamela, and Peter and their families. He was retired from Boston University where he was a professor of geography.
His SVT family will miss his lively presence, the warmth of his smile, and his knowledgeable conversation.

A memorial service celebrating George’s life will take place on Wednesday, June 1, at 1:30pm at the Unitarian First Parish Church in Wayland.
