MEMORIAL DAY
The Wayland Library will be closed on Monday, May 30, for Memorial Day.
 
EXHIBITS
The annual spring show of members of Arts/Wayland members is being shown in the Raytheon Room this month. Works by Ellen Moyer, a native of Wayland who now lives in western Massachusetts, are featured in the library foyer during May.  Meanwhile, our lower level display case is devoted to all things bicycle. 
 
SHAKESPEARE WITH HELEN WHALL
“Shakespeare on the Screen” with Professor Helen Whall is well underway. The final program will be on May 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the Raytheon Room. 
 
LIBRARY BOOK GROUPS
This year’s book groups are winding down for the summer but will start up again next year. Newcomers are welcome at both our book groups. The evening group will meet on Monday, June 6, at 7:30 p.m. and will be reading Road Home by Rose Tremain. For more information, contact Andy Moore at 508-358-2311. The daytime group will meet next on Friday, June 10, at 12 noon and will be reading Telex from Cuba by Rachel Kushner.  For more information about the daytime book group, contact Kathy Powers, also at 508-358-2311. Both groups meet in the library’s Raytheon Room.
 
STORYTIMES
Join us in the Raytheon Room for integrated arts programs for preschoolers with Sharon Engler on Tuesdays in May from 10:30-11:15 a.m. Sharon is currently the Music Enrichment Teacher at Wayland Creative Preschool’s program. For ages 3-5.   Siblings welcome. Registration is not required. We ask that parents and care givers participate in storytime activities with their children. 
 
Conroy Office Hours
Representative Tom Conroy will hold office hours from 3:30-4 p.m. in the library’s Raytheon Room on Friday, May 20.
 
HISTORIC HOME PRESERVATION
On Saturday, June 4, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. the Wayland Historical Commission is presenting a program by Historic New England and its Stewardship Program entitled “Preserving Four Centuries of New England Homes.” Senior Stewardship Manager Joseph Cornish will discuss the history of the Stewardship Program and how it now protects eighty privately-owned historic properties across New England through the use of preservation restrictions. Cornish will explain the process of protecting a property with preservation restrictions from the initial contact with a property owner to the execution of the finalized preservation restriction agreement using examples of properties and historic features currently protected by Historic New England.
 
BOOKFLIX IS HERE!
The library has provides access to Scholastic BookFlix, a new online literacy resource that pairs classic video storybooks from Weston Woods with related eBooks from Scholastic to build a love of reading and learning. BookFlix reinforces early reading skills and introduces children to a world of knowledge and exploration. Visit to the Children’s section at waylandlibrary.org and get started.
