Preview of Board of Selectmen Meeting for Monday, May 2

The Board of Selectmen will meet on Monday, May 2 in Town Building.

After reviewing the agenda for the public, Fire Chief Robert Loomer will introduce the newest members of the department.  Town Clerk Lois Toombs will swear the recruits to the faithful discharge of their duties.  This event will be followed by a fitting exercise – Selectmen proclaiming the week of May 1-7 as Public Service Recognition Week, an opportunity to connect and educate citizens about the work of their local government, recognize the contributions of professional staff, and hopefully inspire a new generation of public servants.

Selectmen will interview Jean Prince who has applied to fill the vacancy on the Economic Development Committee for a term expiring June 30, 2012.  The Board will then complete the task of organizing for the year ending with the 2012 Annual Town Meeting, reviewing roles and assignments to key issues and scheduling office hours on a Saturday in May at the transfer station/recycling center.

Later, the Board will consider how best to fill the newly-created permanent municipal building committee and discuss the timetable for assigning the DPW facility feasibility planning task to the group.  The five permanent seats on the committee will be appointed based on professional and vocational training, education and experience.  Two additional members will be jointly appointed by the Selectmen and Board of Public Works to represent the program needs of the building project.

After considering the consent calendar and reviewing correspondence, the Board will hear the weekly report of the Town Administrator featuring a preview of agenda topics for the next several meetings.  Among the items to be discussed is the public process for developing specifications and design of athletic fields at the Middle School.  During Selectmen’s reports and concerns, the Board will approve the report that accompanies the amendment to the Verizon license as the final step in completing cable franchise license negotiations.  The meeting will conclude following an executive session regarding collective bargaining negotiations with library employees and negotiations on the employment agreement with the Town Administrator.

The meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Selectmen's Meeting Room.
