FLORAL ARRANGEMENT WORKSHOP, Tuesday, May 3 at 10am.  The Wayland Garden Club invites you to a FREE workshop . Create a take-home arrangement! Bring clippers (if you have them) and a box to carry your arrangement. Space is limited. Call the COA to sign up. Residents who were waitlisted for this popular program last Fall as well as first time participants will be given priority.
 
TIME TO TALK MEDICAL SERIES: WHY MONITOR YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE?

May’s “Time to Talk” medical series coffee hour will feature Dr. Sidhartha Pani,, an Emerson hospital physician specializing in internal medicine and kidney diseases. Join us and develop an understanding of the long-term effects of uncontrolled blood pressure on your kidneys. A general question and answer period will follow Dr. Pani’s presentation. Join us for this interesting and informative session!
* Dr. Pani, whose office is in Emerson Hospital’s Sudbury location at 490 Boston Post Road, is a regular contributor to the Town Crier Newspaper.
 
BRITISH ROMANTIC POETRY
A Four Week Course with Dr. Eugene Narrett, Mondays –
June 6, 13, 20 and 27 from 1:30-3:00 in the Selectmen’s Meeting Room. Cost is $40 for the 4-week session. You must pre-register. Class is limited to 20 participants.
Poems for review include works by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, William Wordsworth, William Blake, Percy Bysshe Shelley, and John Keats.  The classes will investigate the multi-faceted elegance of form and expression, the spiritual discoveries, social questions and the invitation to re-imagine one’s life offered in the poetry of these great writers.  
Dr. Narrett receives great reviews for his stimulating presentations.
 
 
GARDEN IN THE WOODS, Framingham, Wednesday, May 11Leave Wayland Town Building at 12:15, return by 3pm, $10. Travel to Garden in the Woods for a 30– minute tour in an electric golf cart through the lovely gardens. The cart accommodates five participants at a time; when not on the tour, browse the gift shop and displays or relax in the picnic area. Ride provided by our COA van; trip limited to 9 participants. Dixieland Music with THE RIVERBOAT STOMPERS: SHERBORN INN, Luncheon and Music Series,
33 North Main Street, (Intersection of Rte 16 and 27), Sherborn, MA . Wed., June 22, $22 per person (includes lunch, tax, gratuity and music), 11:45 – 2:00. Meet at the Sherborn Inn; pay at the door. Bring a friend or come alone and be seated at tables reserved for Wayland. This is a great Dixieland band. Choice of luncheon entrée. Please make your reservation with the COA asap as we have a limited number of seats being held.
 
“TOUR BOSTON” Thursday, June 23. Leave 10am, return by 2:15pm., $35.00 (includes transportation and tour).   Tour Boston with critically acclaimed actor, teacher and historian Stephen Collins. Experience a fully narrated 90-minute tour that includes historical, literary, and architectural treasures of “Beantown”. A few of the sites included are the USS Constitution, the Public Garden, Beacon Hill, the State House, Longfellow Bridge, Trinity Church, and more! Lunch to follow the tour at the “No Name” restaurant; participants pay for lunch on their own.
 
TANGLEWOOD OVERNIGHT, Sunday, August 28 – Monday, August 29. Lorin Maazel Conducts Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 plus the Tanglewood Festival Chorus performs at Tanglewood. Reserved seats inside The Shed for the Sunday afternoon BSO concert. Overnight at the Williams Inn. Dinner (Sun) and breakfast (Mon) included & more!   $325pp (double occupancy), $365 if single occupancy. BOSTON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA OPEN REHEARSALS – BUS TRANSPORTATION
Transportation for the final BSO rehearsal on May 4 is $20. To order your Open Rehearsal tickets, call the BSO at 888-266-7575. To schedule your bus transportation, contact the COA office at 508-358-2990. Transportation reservations required.
 
TAI CHI for Stress Reduction, Wednesdays, 10:30-11:30am. Certified Instructor: Robin Natanel. 4 classes in May : $20 if pre-registered for month or $8.00/class if not.
Learn to use the Tai Chi form to increase your physical balance and "sense" of balance. Tai Chi allows you to physically, mentally and emotionally feel YOUR flow aligning with the flow of nature. The class begins with music and meditation, some Qi Qong breathing techniques, temple exercises for flexible joints and strength, then the Tai Chi form itself. Class adapts to the participants’ individual needs. Tai Chi can lower blood pressure, improve balance, reduce pain and effective for stress reduction. Tai Chi is open to non-seniors*  Those starting mid-month will be pro-rated at $5/class if registering for the month.

For other transportation options, please contact the Wayland COA office at 508 358 2990 to discuss medical taxi vouchers, COA van trips and FISH – an all volunteer team providing rides to medical appointments when no other options are available.
