Wayland Town Crier 2/18/11: Wayland High School grad's movie needs help. "Girlfriend," the full-length motion picture, written and directed by 1998 Wayland High School graduate Justin Lerner, and starring his classmate Evan Sneider, was shot entirely on location in Wayland during September and October of 2009. Sneider, who has Down Syndrome, transcends his disability and turns in not only a stellar acting performance, but also, along with Lerner, a groundbreaking artistic achievement. "Girlfriend" is the first American motion picture to cast a person with Down Syndrome as the lead actor. "Girlfriend" is asking fans to help finish the film by paying for the marketing and publicity costs to bring it to as many theaters as possible. They set up an innovative fundraising site and are offering several exiting "perks" for donations of all amounts. If you want to see "Girlfriend" and the beautiful town of Wayland on the big screen in theaters across the country, if you want to help two Wayland natives begin their careers, or if you want to support a film that empowers young people with disabilities, please visit the site and make a donation. Any support, however small, will get this wonderful film closer to reaching the thousands of audience members patiently waiting for its release.
