State Representative Conroy Named Vice Chair of Health Care Financing Committee

On Friday, Massachusetts Speaker of the House Robert A. DeLeo named Representative Thomas P. Conroy as House Vice Chairman of the Joint Committee on Health Care Financing.  As Vice Chairman, Representative Conroy will be joining the new House Chair, Representative Steven M. Walsh, of Lynn, along with Senate Chair Richard T. Moore, of Uxbridge.

During his tenure in office, Representative Conroy has worked closely with Governor Patrick’s administration, legislative leaders, and health care industry stakeholders—including insurance companies, hospitals, physician organizations, consumer groups, and the health care business community—on issues relating to health care reform and cost containment.  He was actively involved in the passage of a new law last session that reduced health care costs for small businesses.

Representative Conroy said, “I am honored to serve as Vice Chair of the Health Care Financing Committee at a time when health care cost reform is such an important issue for individuals, municipalities, the business community, and of course all the stakeholders in the health care industry.  We have an opportunity during this legislative session to craft a health care cost control law here in Massachusetts that becomes a template for the entire country.  I welcome input from citizens in Lincoln, Sudbury, and Wayland about how to achieve this goal, and I look forward to working with all interested parties and my colleagues toward reducing health care costs in our Commonwealth.”

Since winning election in 2006, Representative Conroy has been dedicated to increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of state government, with a particular focus on fiscal responsibility and economic development policies that work for all Massachusetts residents.

Rep. Conroy was also appointed to serve on the Higher Education Committee and the Community Development and Small Businesses Committee.  Last session, Rep. Conroy served on the House Ways & Means Committee and the Joint Committee on State Administration and Regulatory Oversight.
