Future of transfer station collaboration uncertain

Wayland Town Crier 1/21/11: Future of transfer station collaboration uncertain. After an unsuccessful attempt to handle both Wayland and Sudbury residents at the Wayland Transfer Station on Dec. 11, the current schedule – Wayland open on Tuesdays, Sudbury on Thursdays, and both facilities on Saturdays – can be expected to remain in place for the foreseeable future while the two towns consider practical ways to merge operations.

“With two transfer stations operating just a stone’s throw apart, it just doesn’t make much sense to operate them totally separately,” said Wayland DPW Director Don Ouellette. “The idea for combining them emerged several years ago from the selectmen and the boards of health in the two towns. A total merging of the facilities could be expected to result in savings of around $40,000 per year for each community.”
