Wayland Patch 1/14/11: Wayland Leaders Won’t Let Tragedy Change Their Plans. In many ways, the events that took place in Tuscan, Ariz., last Saturday seem a million miles from the quiet of Wayland, Mass. The shooting happened two time zones away, after all, and Arizona might as well be a different country for many people on the east coast. But the tragedy did resonate here. It resonated in the moment of silence observed Monday morning; it resonated in the well-wishes and heartfelt grieving offered by individuals living thousands of miles away; it resonated in the frustration and anger and questions as people did their best to understand how – why – something so horrific could take place. Now, nearly a week since the shooting, public officials who serve Wayland are resolute that the tragedy will not resonate by separating them from meeting, greeting and walking among their constituents.
