October Open Houses at The Children’s Way

The Children’s Way, an early childhood program of the Wayland Public Schools, is holding two informational open houses in October for families interested in enrolling their children for the 2011-12 academic year.

The open houses will be held in the Selectmen’s Hearing Room on the first floor in the Wayland Town Building on Friday, October 15, 2010, and Tuesday, October 19, 2010, from 8:45-9:30am. These are adult informational meetings offering parents a chance to learn about the program, meet Director Cheryl Fertig, ask questions, and tour the preschool, which is located in the Wayland Town Building at 41 Cochituate Road.

Recognizing families’ varying schedule needs, The Children’s Way offers three, four, or five half-or-full-day options. To receive additional information or to RSVP for the open houses, please call The Children's Way office at 508-358-7072 or check the website at: http://www.wayland.k12.ma.us/district/district_info/ws_community_prog/tcw.htm.

The Children’s Way provides early childhood education for children ages two through five. Children of all abilities attend the program. Activities, materials, and teaching methods accommodate a wide range of needs. Specialists in the areas of Speech and Language Pathology, Inclusion, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy are part of the teaching team.

The Children’s Way has a developmentally appropriate curriculum that acknowledges and appreciates the developmental level and learning style of each child and provides appropriate opportunities for discovery and growth. Close attention is paid to the process of play in which children make sense of their world and build on their learning and experience. Through play and planned activities the children are able to develop skills, express their creativity, and gain confidence and independence.
The curriculum reflects the Massachusetts Board of Education Guidelines for Preschool Learning Experiences based on the standards for PreK – K of the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. These guidelines structure learning through play and meaningful activities in a developmental sequence. They are intended to provide continuity of curriculum from preschool into kindergarten and to ensure that children are providedwith “experiences that build broad and balancedfoundations for learning in all content areas.”

The Children's Way is operated under the auspices of Wayland School Community Programs, which oversees fee-based programs in the Wayland school district.
