Wayland Town Crier 9/2/10: Wayland Senior Center holding series on planning for retirement. The Wayland Senior Center is hosting a pre-retirement series on four successive Thursday nights at 7pm, starting September 9.

On Sept. 9, Kurt Czarnowski, the Social Security Administration’s regional communications director, will provide an overview of the program and help attendees better understand the important role it plays in fulfilling their retirement dreams. He will explain how the benefit is computed, when someone can begin to collect, and the impact of work in retirement.

The following week, SHINE (Serving the Health Information Needs of Elders) counselor Kathy Worhach will discuss Medicare. A veteran SHINE counselor, Worhach has for years helped answer questions about Medicare, Medicare supplements, HMOs, Medicaid, free hospital care, prescription drug assistance, drug discount cards and long-term health insurance.

On Sept. 23, Wayland resident Sam Kiefer of UBS Financial Services will give a primer on financial terms and strategies to assist the participants in making informed decisions about financial planning as they enter retirement.

And on Sept. 30, elder law attorney Denise Yukorfsky, will discuss legal considerations for older individuals.

There will be a question-and-answer period following each presentation and ample handouts for everyone. The events are free but, due to the anticipated turnout, the Council on Aging asks that you pre-register for the session(s) that you wish to attend, by calling 508-358-2990.
