NEW DAY TRIP OFFERING:  GLOUCESTER HARBOR SCHOONER SAIL
Tues., Aug. 24. $60 (includes transportation, sailing trip and luncheon at the Gloucester House)
Come sail with us!  Leave Wayland at 8am and set sail at 10am. After we disembark, enjoy a hearty and delicious luncheon at the Gloucester House right there at the wharf!  Return to Wayland approx. 3pm. ($60pp)

TAI CHI for Stress Reduction.  Wednesday, 10:30am-11:30am, Hearing Room
If not pre-registered for this class, the cost is $8.00/class (If you’re starting mid-month, attendees will be pro-rated to end of month ($5/class).  Learn to use the Tai Chi form to increase your physical balance and  "sense" of balance. Tai Chi allows you to physically, mentally and emotionally  feel YOUR flow aligning with the flow of nature. The class begins with music and meditation, some Qi Qong breathing techniques, Temple exercises for flexible joints and strength, then the Tai Chi form itself.  Class adapts to the participant’s individual needs.  Tai Chi can lower blood pressure, improve balance and reduce pain. (Pre-registration for June is $25 -5 Wednesdays). Individual classes are $8.00 if not pre-registered.. Should you decide to join the class and pre-pay for the month, your class fee will be pro-rated at $5/class
 
LOIS’ FIT FOR THE FUTURE   Every Tuesday & Thursday, 10—11am, Hearing Room.  $2.00/class. Lois Leav, Instructor.  Stretching, toning, aerobic fitness and weight work done to music. This  class adapts to all fitness levels. Exercises can be modified to meet individual needs.  Pay only when you come. This is enjoyable way to exercise and meet new people.  No pre-registration required.

BETTER BALANCE, LIVING STRONGER
NEXT SESSION: Aug. 3, 10 and 17. $19/for each 3-week session. Summer classes are on TUESDAYS 9:15am-10:15am in the Senior Center.   Leslie Worris of the Wellness Alliance teaches strategies to avoid and prevent falls. Have fun while learning to improve your balance and increase strength. Using balls, bands, weights and incorporating yoga and tai chi, improve your posture, flexi-bility, mobility, stability, endurance and maintain your independence. Pre–registration required.

WAYLAND AUXILIARY POLICE SUMMER COOKOUT  SUNDAY, AUGUST 22ND 11:00-1:00 – FREE  (RAIN DATE, SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 12 11:00-1:00)
The Wayland Auxiliary Police will be hosting, cooking and serving a wonderful cookout for Wayland residents on Sunday, August 22nd from 11-1 at the Wayland Town Building. Menu will include hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, pasta salads, Caesar salads, desserts and beverages. Enjoy great food, music and company!  For reservations call the Council on Aging (508 358 2990) or stop by and sign up at the Town Building.  If you need a ride to this event, let the COA know when you sign up for the event. The Auxiliary Police will for volunteers to pick you up. 

TANGLEWOOD DAY TRIP – Sunday, August 1, 2010 Cost: $110/pp. Complete luncheon at the Cork ‘N Hearth nestled on the shores of scenic Laurel Lake. Seats inside the shed for a concert featuring the Boston Symphony Orchestra conducted by Charles Dutoit and highlighting YoYo Ma on cello. Call ASAP!
 
NORTHERN NATIONAL PARKS— September 17 – 24, 2010. Cost: $1,999/pp double. Highlights
include Salt Lake City, Idaho Falls, Grand Teton and Craters of the Moon National Parks, Jackson Hole, Yellowstone National Park and Old Faithful.    (It’s not too early to sign up!  Call soon!)

Includes a visit to New York State Museum, Syracuse/Skaneateles/Erie Canal, Salt Museum and the banks of Onondaga Lake, dinner cruise on the lake, William Seward Home, Sonnenberg Gardens, Fox Run Vineyards and more. Three nights lodging at the beautiful Double Tree Hotel in Syracuse and 6 other meals.
 
WINNIPESAUKEE RAILROAD & HART’S TURKEY FARM – Thurs., Sept. 9, 2010. Cost:$79/pp. 90- minute train ride on the Winnipesaukee scenic railroad in restored vintage coaches thru some of New England’s finest natural scenery. Then on to Meredith and nearby Hart’s Turkey Farm and sightseeing.
 
“CRUISE TO NOWHERE” FROM BOSTON  –  Sept. 24 – 25, 2010. Cost: $299/pp double. We kick off our 2-day adventure with an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet followed by a Bon Voyage Boston show. We’ll arrive at our cruise ship the Norwegian Spirit in time for lunch on board. Then join us for a special cocktail party with live entertainment as we set sail.
 
MOVIES are shown in the Wayland Senior Center twice monthly. Showtime is 12:30pm. Popcorn and cold drinks are provided from our self-serve hospitality cart. It’s all complimentary! Bring a friend, and/or bring your lunch. 
August 13: Something’s Gotta Give (2003), PG13, comedy. Jack Nicholson, Diane Keaton. A soon to be senior citizen with a taste for young women falls for an accomplished woman closer to his age. 2hr8min.
August 27: Adam (2009), PG13. Rose Byrne, Hugh Dancy. An off-beat, but touching romantic comedy. Great reviews. 1hr39min.

Door to door, shared van service is provided to Wayland residents 65 years of age or older, disabled of any age, or Wayland residents 60-65years of age who have used Wayland COA van service in the past year.  Pre-registration is required. Call MWRTA for further information on contact the Wayland COA. BOSTON SERVICE (including Jamaica Plain VA Hospital)  is now available for rides to medical appointments only-$5.00 each way. Call 508 820 4650 for additional information.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION CONCERNING THE MWRTA “DIAL A RIDE” AND THE MWRTA FIXED BUS ROUTE:
 ► MWRTA “Dial-A-Ride”
 Effective May 1, Dial-A-Ride is a “cashless debit system”- prepaid rides.  Call the MWRTA “Dial-A-Ride” at 508-820-4650. Pre-registration is required for all riders.
 Determine the frequency of your trips and fund your trip account with the MWRTA. Your account will be charged at the time your ride is provided.  Call the MWRTA for further information. Accounts may be funded by personal check or credit card.  Customers must maintain a positive balance in their fare account to book trips. Reminder that MWRTA will take you to Boston for medical appointments ($5 each way) but appointment must not be earlier than 10am and you must be ready to leave no later than 2:30pm.
 
►MWRTA FIXED ROUTE BUS
 The MWRTA fixed route bus is for anyone, any age (certain restrictions apply).  This is a fixed route looping bus.  It stops at various points on Rte. 30, Rte. 9 and Rte. 27.  Call Customer Service  (508-935-2222) at the MWRTA for additional information and times.  This is NOT a prepaid cashless system like Dial-A-Ride above.  Riders must have exact fare when they board (for adults 65yr+ fare is .75/ride, adults under 65yr fare is $1.50/ride).  This is a “flag down” bus at the Cochituate Ball Field (intersection of West Plain St and Pemberton Rd).          

For information  about FISH (Friends in Service Helping), a volunteer group providing rides to medical appointments when no other options are available, please contact the Wayland Council On Aging (508 358 2990).

MEDICAL TAXI VOUCHER SERVICE.  Pre-purchased vouchers ($15 for $25 worth of meter taxi time may be purchased by Wayland seniors at the COA.  Vouchers are good for trips to medical appointments ONLY.  Medical Taxi Voucher service is provided by JFK Transportation in Natick (508 653 4500)  Effective July 1st, the new one-way Boston rate for medical appointment is $60 on the meter (with your pre-purchased vouchers, your actual cost is $35 each way – plus tip).

COA VAN.  The COA van has a limited number of seats, so call the COA early to reserve a spot.  Unless otherwise indicated, the van driver will pick up/drop off  people at their homes for all trips.  (The following free trips are sponsored by the COA – not MWRTA. Call the COA to make your reservation. 

  • “OUTPOST FARMS” in Holliston for prepared meal  and farm stand purchases on Mon., June 28 and MARKET BASKET in ASHLAND, Mondays: July 12 and August 9.  Pickups to start at 8:45 a.m. and return by 1:00.
  • “AROUND TOWN ERRANDS”: Pick ups to start at 10:00. Home by 12:30. Stops at various banks, stores, cleaners, shops. FREE. Summer dates to be determined; call the COA if you’re interested.
  • TRIP TO CASTLE ISLAND:  Tuesday, July 20th, Rain date July 21. Pick ups to start at 8:45 a.m. and return by 1:00. Day trip to Castle Island, South Boston. Lunch at Sullivan‘s food stand on your own. Walk, relax, watch the fishermen, watch the boats and planes taking off and landing at Logan Airport.
