“Journeys” Art Show on Display July 8-August 30 at Town Building

Margret Krakauer has organized a group show for her students, which will be on display in the Wayland Cultural Council Art Gallery through August 30th.   There will be a reception in honor of the artists in the foyer of the entrance to the Town Building on Thursday evening, July 29th, from 7:30 – 8:30 PM.  The foyer is adjacent to the Art Gallery.  The student works on display are on the theme “Journeys”.  They are by Yvonne Drymiotis, Dorothy Egan, Evelyn Ekmejian, Nancy Germain, Bill Hearne, Liane Hicks, Margaret Hill, Padma Kannabiran, Shirley Knowland, Suni Lopez, Seema Mysore, Lois Novotny, Helen Sullivan, Linda Thompson, and Debbie Tofias.

Margret Krakauer teaches adult studio classes in the Wayland Art Center through the Wayland Recreation Department.  Each student draws or paints in a one of a variety of techniques best suited to the level and interests of that student, including graphite and colored pencils, pastel, watercolor, acrylic, and oil. This insures maximum interest and engagement by the students as each explores both a medium and subject in depth, while reserving the option of changing at any time.  Many of the artists have been studying with Margret for several years, while others have been drawing or painting only a few short months.

To prepare for the exhibit, the students were given the theme “Journeys” as a way to encourage each of them to focus and explore.   Although most of the students do like to travel, Margret suggested that the topic could be taken less literally, and they were encouraged to use their own development of painting or drawing skills as a personal journey.

A longtime student of internationally known local artist George Dergalis, Margret works predominantly in watercolor, but also enjoys other media, including sculpture.  She travels often to Italy and France and loves to paint her explorations.  She is particularly intrigued by Provence and Tuscany, and has worked on a series of watercolors of these regions.   She has included a painting entitled “Misty morning in Montepulciano” in this exhibit.  Margret also works on commission.

Margret is a member of Arts Wayland, and a past president of the Wayland Cultural Council.  More information about her work and classes can be found on her web page, at http://MargretKrakauer.com.
