Bridge – At the Goldman Pairs, Figuring Which Minor to Ruff

NY Times 6/2/10: Bridge – At the Goldman Pairs, Figuring Which Minor to Ruff. The oldest bridge event still being contested is the Goldman Pairs. It was first played in New York City in 1929, when it was won by Oswald Jacoby and George Reith. (Remember, it was only in 1925 that Harold Vanderbilt had invented contract bridge.) The winners of the 82nd Goldman last Sunday at the Eastern States Regional in Manhattan were Doug Doub of West Hartford, Conn., and Yiji Starr of Wayland, Mass. They finished ahead of Sylvia Moss and Judi Radin of Manhattan, with Chris Compton of Dallas and Marty Seligman of Philadelphia third.
