Wayland Town Crier 5/16/10: Open house at Wayland Islamic Center. In the wake of the attempted Times Square bombing, Muslims at yesterday's open house for the Islamic Center of Boston sought to correct common misconceptions and teach the community about the religion. People like the alleged Times Square bomber, a Pakistani-American Muslim, do not represent the religion, said Mohamed Lazzouni, a visiting scholar of Islamic studies at Boston College. "We don't identify with them. They represent none of us," Lazzouni said. "We oppose their ideology and practices in work, action and education." Lazzouni engaged a crowd of about 50 people in a back-and-forth discussion concerning "everything you wanted to know about Islam but were afraid to ask," one of four of such sessions that took place throughout the day.
