Public Forum on Town’s Response to Flooding

Wayland residents:

The Board of Selectmen will conduct a public forum on the Town's response to the flooding that occurred in March and April.  The forum will be held as part of the regular meeting on Monday, May 10th, beginning at 8:00 p.m. in the Large Hearing Room at Town Building.

Present to field questions will be Police Chief Robert Irving (who has the dual role of Director of Emergency Management), Fire Chief Rober Loomer (Deputy Director of Emergency Management), Facilities Director John Moynihan and Public Works Director Don Ouellette (or other designated DPW officials).  The purpose of the forum is to allow citizens to provide feedback regarding any aspect of the Town's response to the public emergency.  The senior management team is committed to continuous improvement of our services and will review constructive suggestions for future use.

The forum will begin with a brief overview of operations during the March 12th – April 21st response to provide context for the discussion before opening the meeting to public questions and comment.  Areas to be covered will be organized for the purposes of discussion to include:  communications with residents; coordination of responsible entities; initial and on-going flood response planning; update on status of public buildings and Federal disaster recovery funds; and recovery/re-building efforts including information gathering, diagnosis of causes, potential remedies, costs and time frame for review and possible implementation.  Key town staff are preparing a series of FAQ's and responses that will be available as hand-outs at the forum and posted on the town website.

This email is being sent to all residents who communicated with the selectmen or town administrator and those who submitted legible email addresses at public comment at recent selectmen's meetings.  I ask citizens who receive this email to forward to neighbors and friends who may be interested in participating in the forum.  For those unable to attend, it will be broadcast live on WayCAM and available shortly thereafter on WayCAM's video on demand service at www.waycam.tv.

This email is also being distributed through our normal media outlet distribution list; I ask that this forum be publicized.

Fred Turkington, Town Administrator
