Preview of April 12 Board of Selectmen Meeting

The next meeting of the Board of Selectmen will be held on Monday, April 12 in Town Building. Selectmen will first hear a presentation by the lead petitioners of the article requesting Town Meeting to transfer to the Board of Selectmen the recreation portion of the Loker Conservation and Recreation Area for the purpose of leasing the parcel to an entity seeking to construct and operate a multi-purpose athletic complex including an indoor ice skating rink, indoor athletic fields, and outdoor athletic fields. Similar to the arrangement with the pool, the Town would receive preferred time for school teams and recreation programs. The terms of the lease would be negotiated and approved by both the Recreation Commission and the Board of Selectmen. Development of the facility would follow the same process used for any other land use projects, including public hearings and votes by appropriate regulatory bodies.

At approximately 8:00 p.m., selectmen will review changes to Annual Town Meeting Warrant articles that have been proposed by sponsors and petitioners and finalize the order of articles to appear in the 2010 Annual Town Meeting Warrant. The Warrant will be posted on April 27 and delivered to residents that week. The Annual Town Election, including a special election for State Senate, will be held on Tuesday, May 11. Annual Town Meeting begins on Thursday, May 13 and continues on Monday, May 17 and Wednesday, May 19 at the High School Field House.

During the report of the Town Administrator, selectmen will discus projected meeting agenda items for the next several meetings, receive an update on flooding impact on roads and public buildings, and will discuss schedule and logistics related to Annual Town Meeting.

The meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Selectmen's Meeting Room.
