First-person: Checking out Pelham Island Road

Wsyland Town Crier 4/1/10: First-person: Checking out Pelham Island Road. Recently heavy rains flooded the town center. For many of us, the flooding was a nuisance. We had water in our basements and long commutes to school or work. However, for those living and working in the center of town, the flood of 2010 means so much more. On Wednesday, March 17, I went down to see the duck boat that had rolled into town and to learn about how the flood affected people’s lives. The first person I met was a volunteer for the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). When he learned I wanted to write an article about the flood and how it affected people’s lives, he asked me if I wanted to board the duck boat and see for myself, and I couldn’t resist.
