School Committee finalizes budget heading into Town Meeting

Wayland Town Crier 3/23/10: School Committee finalizes budget heading into Town Meeting. The School Committee voted to approve operational and capital budgets for the 2010-11 school year on Monday night, which are set to go for a vote before Town Meeting in May. The total school budget is $31.4 million, but after offsets, voters will be asked to approve a budget of $30.6 million, a decrease of $515,050, or 1.66 percent, from the budget for the 2009-10 school year, the first decrease in a school budget request in nearly 30 years. Offsets are revenue generated from school fees and transfers so that the amount of the budget paid for by local taxes is reduced.
