Wayland to be presented with Common Cause e-Government Award

Common Cause Massachusetts has released the findings of its annual survey of municipal websites, and will present cities and towns with the 2010 e-Government Award on Tuesday (March 16) at 11 a.m. in a hearing room at the State House.

The basic award will go to 97 cities and towns, including Wayland, for posting their governing body's minutes and an agenda, the budget, bylaws, and if applicable, town meeting warrants and results. Towns that additionally post a year's archive of minutes and agendas, a calendar, zoning bylaws, school committee minutes and agenda, and the minutes and agenda for another board or committee will receive the award with distinction.

The award reflects the input of the Electronics Communication Committee and the committment of Town staff to make the website more user-friendly and the content more comprehensive and consistent. Web designers are being interviewed to undertake a complete overhaul of the Town website to be finished by summer. Members of the citizen advisory group will offer suggestions on the format and content.

The award is also a recognition by an open government advocacy group of the town's continuing efforts to make town business transparent and accessible to those who utilize technology rather than more traditional means of accessing government.
