Preview of Board of Selectmen Meeting for Monday, March 1

The next meeting of the Board of Selectmen will be held on Monday, March 1 in Town Building.  After convening the meeting, selectmen will hear from residents of the Charena Farms neighborhood expressing concerns that construction at the high school will result in student parking on the streets adjoining the campus and trespassing through private property to access the school.  They are requesting a temporary ban on parking during the school day for the duration of the school project.

At approximately 7:45pm, the Board will hear an update of on-going discussions with Sudbury for collaboration on a number of services.  Selectmen will consider how to coordinate the effort with other town boards which have varying degrees of jurisdiction for some of the services under discussion.  Selectman Tichnor will present an idea for a strategy to assure this topic is a high priority of the Board given the range of services spans the portfolios of all selectmen.

Selectmen will also consider changes to the internal policy for selecting the board chair.  Legislation approving a Town Meeting vote to set the terms of elected officials to expire at the conclusion of Annual Town Meeting (rather than with the election of successors) allows for selectmen serving in their final year of a three-year term to be eligible to serve as chair.  If so, the term of chair would align with Annual Town Meeting rather than fiscal year.

After reviewing correspondence, considering the consent calendar, and discussing projected meeting agenda items for the next several meetings, the Board will receive a report from Selectman Correia on cable license renewal negotiations and the beginning of the public hearing process on March 10.  Selectman Pope will also discuss her suggestion that the Board offer office hours to residents unable to attend or uncomfortable speaking at public comment.

The meeting begins at 7pm in the Selectmen's Meeting Room.
