Shop at Whole Foods on Dec. 8 and support local hockey players

The Wayland Hockey Association (WHA) and Whole Foods Market in Wayland have agreed to partner in funding local school ice hockey teams.  The two organizations have selected Tuesday, Dec. 8 as Wayland Hockey Day at the natural foods supermarket in Wayland’s business center. Five percent of all in-store sales that day will be donated to WHA.  Ice hockey players from Wayland High School and Wayland Middle School, along with coaches and parents, will be on hand to greet and thank shoppers.  "Whole Foods Market understands the synergy between healthy food and healthy, active lifestyles," said Wayland store team leader Kate Demase. "We salute the student athletes skating for Wayland teams, and want to help WHA put more athletes on the ice."  Winter ice hockey teams are fielded at the High School and Middle School levels for both boys and girls. No funding is provided by school athletic budgets. The Wayland Hockey Association and the families of skaters rely on local support to fund expensive ice time, equipment and travel.  "Our community business leaders have been true champions of local athletics," applauded WHA president Spencer Ball. "I would certainly urge all local residents to shop heavily at Whole Foods Market on Tuesday, Dec. 8. You’ll not only support our student athletes, you’ll shop at a terrific market."

Wayland Hockey Association is a nonprofit organization dedicated exclusively to funding local school ice hockey. For more information visit the Wayland Hockey Website.  Whole Foods Market is located at 317 Boston Post Road (Route 20) in Wayland.
