Wayland Town Crier 11/21/09: Town Meeting: Town Center article passes, fails, and then passes again. Moderator Peter Gossels quoted Yogi Berra in reference to last week’s special Town Meeting, saying, “It ain’t over till it’s over.” During the first session on Wednesday night, a proposal to reduce the affordable housing component in the planned 372,500-square-foot Town Center development from 25 percent to 12 percent, in exchange for setting aside funds in a separate affordable housing trust, initially passed by a two-thirds majority. However, a motion to recount after hundreds of people had left the Field House ended up with a vote of 297 to 216 against the article, causing it to fail. The Town Center article was reconsidered on Thursday evening around 11:30pm, once again gaining the two-thirds majority needed for approval by a vote of 531 to 251.
