Obituary: Jackson Turner

Jackson Turner, 99 died on Monday, July 20, 2009 at Emerson Hospital following a brief illness.

He was born in Boston on November 10, 1909 the son of the late Howard C. Turner and Helen (Jackson) Turner. Mr. Turner was the beloved father of Thomas J. Turner of Framingham; Richard P. Turner, USN (Ret.) of Wayland and Harvey P. Turner and his wife Mary L. Solomons of Saratoga Springs, NY. He was the brother of Howard R. Turner of Cambridge and Grandfather of Nicholas B. Turner of Saratoga Springs, NY. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. He was the husband of the late Mary P. (Josealyn) Turner who died in June of 1999.

Mr. Turner spent his formative years in Boston, was a resident of Wayland for the past 54 years and previously resided in Chestnut Hill and Wellesley. He attended Boston schools and was a graduate of Babson College. He served his country proudly with the United States Army during World War II. He was the Manager of the West Newton Savings Bank when it opened in Wayland. He was a member of the Wayland Kiwanis for many years. Mr. Turner enjoyed the outdoors, reading and listening to jazz and classical music. He could always been seen working around his home and helping his neighbors.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 24, 2009 at 12:00 noon at the Forsyth Chapel at Forest Hills Cemetery, 95 Forest Hills Avenue, Boston. Interment will follow in the Turner family lot in Forest Hills Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in Mr. Turner’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.  Arrangements entrusted to the care of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home of Wayland.
