Sock drive for Veterans

Got Socks?  New men’s white socks are needed for homeless veterans.

Wayland Public Health Nurse Ruth Mori RN, BSN and Wayland Veterans’ Agent John Turchinetz are asking for donations of NEW men’s white socks and/or hotel-size personal care products to be dropped off at the Wayland Town Building by August 26.

Last year saw the debut of the Massachusetts Association of Public Health Nurses (MAPHN) Metrowest/Central Chapter’s participation in the Department of Veterans Affairs’ “Operation Stand Down” held at Clifford Park-Boston.  This upcoming two-day event provides homeless veterans a number of services to which they may not otherwise have access. Our Metrowest/Central MAPHN Chapter provides foot inspections and warm water soaks that are in addition to the podiatry foot care services offered.

Operation Stand Down 2009 will take place on August 28th and 29th. We would like to provide our veterans clean white socks after having their foot soak, and distribute any hotel sized lotions and body care products that we are also able to collect for this event.

Please deposit your donation of new white socks and/or toiletries at the Wayland Town Hall front lobby and rear parking lot entrance in the “Operation Stand Down” boxes.  We will ensure that these get delivered to the veterans we see at the Operation Stand Down event.

Any questions, please contact Ruth Mori at the Wayland Board of Health at 508-358-3617 or John Turchinetz on Wednesdays at 508-358-3787. Information regarding Operation Stand Down may be found online.
