ANNUAL SUMMER BARBECUE featuring Singer/Songwriter/Musician: David Polansky
Wednesday, August 5, $7.00
Join us for our “Cook-out, Eait-in” barbecue in the Hearing Room.  The menu will include barbecue chicken, hot dogs, salads and Strawberry shortcake!  Singer David Polansky will be joining us with his keyboard/trumpet.  This is a popular event so make your reservations early.

BETTER BALANCE, LIVING STRONGER
Mondays, 9:30-10:30am
The next session of Better Balance will begin Monday, July 27, 2009 in the Senior Center..  This is a 3 week course only ($19)-July 27, August 3, Aug. 10.  Have fun while learning to improve your balance and increase strength. Using balls, bands and weights, improve your posture, flexibility, mobility, stability, breath, endurance to promote independence.  Preregistration required.

GENEALOGY MEETS TWICE MONTHLY

If you are interested in research techniques and the study of family ancestry and history, join this group that now meets on the first and third Tuesday at 1:00pm at the Senior Center. This group meets twice monthly.  New participants always welcome.

MAH JONG  is held Mondays at 1:00pm at the Senior Center.  If you know how to play, join us.  If you have thought about playing and would like to learn, instruction is available.  This is a rummy type game played with tiles. 

MOVIES
are shown in the Wayland Senior Center twice monthly. Showtime is 12:30pm. Popcorn and cold drinks are provided from our self-serve hospitality cart. It’s all complimentary! Bring a friend, and/or bring your lunch. The July 31st presentation will be the new comedy release, “The Great Buck Howard” with John Malkovich and Colin Hanks.

BRIDGE for ADVANCED BEGINNERS/INTERMEDIATE
If you have basic skills and enjoy the game of bridge, consider joining this friendly group  who simply enjoy the opportunity to play and learn from each other.  Frequently there is an instructor who attends.  There is no fee for this program.  Registration is not required.
Players convene at 9am every Friday morning in the Senior Center.

TAI CHI with Robin Natanel

Wednesday, 10:30am-11:30am,
Four week session: $20 (or pay $8.00/class if not pre-registered)
Next Session starts: Wednesday, July 22, 2009. (July 22, 29, Aug. 5, 12)
Learn to use the Tai Chi form to increase your physical balance and  "sense" of balance. Tai Chi allows you to physically, mentally and emotionally  feel YOUR flow aligning with the flow of nature. The class begins with music and meditation, some Qi Qong breathing techniques, Temple exercises for flexible joints and strength, then the Tai Chi form itself.  Class adapts to the participant’s individual needs.  Tai Chi can lower blood pressure, improve balance and reduce pain.

LOIS’ FIT FOR THE FUTURE
   Tuesday & Thursday, 10—11a.m., Hearing Room, $2.00/class. Lois Leav, Instructor. Stretching, toning, aerobic fitness and weight work done to music. This  class adapts to all fitness levels. Exercises can be modified to meet individual needs.  Pay only when you come. This is enjoyable way to exercise and meet new people.  No pre-registration required.

  • LOBSTERBAKE, SCARBOROUGH, ME – WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 26TH. (Wait List Only)  Cost $89.  Includes transportation, lobsterbake, plus a lighthouse lovers harbor cruise.
     
  • HOLIDAY MAGIC, November 29-30th.  Cost: $299 double, $379 single. The NORTH POLE EXPRESS TRAIN RIDE with the allure of New York City and the CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR SHOW AT RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL.  Seats are limited and will go fast… it’s not too early to sign up! 

LOCK BOXES.  Lock boxes allow access to your home in the event you call emergency personnel for help and cannot get to the door.  A house key is stored in a small locked storage box that is secured to the outside of your home in an inconspicuous place.  Only Wayland Rescue vehicles have a key to get to the box.  There is a small one time fee to purchase the box and installation is free.  Call the COA for more details.

NEED TRANSPORTATION?  Call the MWRTA “Dial-A-Ride” at  508 820 4650.  Door to door, shared van service is provided to Wayland residents 65 years of age or older, disabled of any age, or Wayland residents 60-65years of age who have used Wayland COA van service in the past year.  Pre-registration is required. Call MWRTA for further information on contact the Wayland COA. BOSTON SERVICE is now available for rides to medical appointments only-$5.00 each way.
