Don’t throw away that paper cup, glass jar, cardboard box or tin can. Bring it to the Spellman Museum of Stamps & Postal History on the Regis College campus in Weston to be recycled by decorating it with postage stamps.
The museum is holding its school vacation week program on Wednesday, April 22 from noon to 3 p.m. In addition to providing stamps to decorate used items, children can also do other arts and crafts activities using stamps.
There will also be stamp games, puzzles and hunts, and stamp prizes will be awarded. Instructions about how to make recycled envelopes will also be given. A special display featuring U.S. and worldwide stamps that depict many environmental topics will be on exhibit as well as "The Lincoln Bicentennial." Children can also search for stamps about animals of the world, many of them in danger of extinction, and locate them on a world map. Adults can enjoy the "Wine and Food on Stamps" exhibit plus a display of over 125 antique corkscrews. Refreshments will be served and free tips about how to start a stamp collection will be available. All children will receive a free packet of stamps and have their photograph made into a "stamp." The museum was recently voted by Nickelodeon as "One of the Three Best Museums for Children in Boston Metro Area." The museum gift shop and U.S. post office will also be open. Admission for adults is $8 and children age 16 and under are free. No reservations are necessary. For more information call 781-768-8367 or visit www.spellman.org
