Metco cuts spur students, districts to adapt

Boston Globe 3/8/09: Metco cuts spur students, districts to adapt. The governor made midyear cuts to the program totaling $2.3 million, and also canceled a $1 million increase Metco was supposed to get this school year. And he has recommended another cut of more than $850,000 for next year. Wayland made up about half of the $41,000 cuts it sustained this year through private fund-raising. The district has a number of annual events, including a road race and a Martin Luther King Jr. Day dinner, that bring in around $25,000.
