Monday, March 9, Transitioning to College Workshop, Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, 7-9pm.

Many high school seniors and their parents are anxiously anticipating the transition from high school to college. The seniors will once again become freshmen, who will be on their own and away from home, and the decisions they make in college can affect their college experience, and perhaps their lives, in many ways. Please join other high school juniors, seniors and their parents on Monday, March 9, 7-9pm at Lincoln/Sudbury Regional High School for a timely “Transitioning to College Workshop” and discussion. In separate but simultaneous groups, parents will be able to address their concerns with a panel of current college students from the local area who are now studying at a variety of colleges around the country, and seniors will be able to ask current college students what really happens at college and hear suggestions about how they have handled problems and issues. Parents and students will then later come together for a group discussion. This workshop will be facilitated by Wayland residents Nikki Fedele, Ph.D. and Dina Ray, Ph.D.. Drs. Fedele and Ray have both been on the faculty of Harvard Medical School, and between them have over 50 years of experience in dealing with adolescent and parenting issues. Dr. Fedele is Co-Director of the Mother Son Project at the Jean Baker Miller Training Institute, Wellesley College, and has published in her specialty areas of parenting and groups. Dr. Ray has a practice in Wayland treating issues across the lifespan from adolescents through the elderly. She specializes in grieving and loss, pet bereavement, and chronic illness. “Transitioning To College Workshop” is sponsored by the YES Committee (Youth Empowerment and Support) comprised of parents representing Wayland, Sudbury, Weston, Stow, Maynard and Lincoln. The mission of YES is to empower adolescents with the tools and the confidence to make smart and healthy choices. If you are interested in becoming involved with the YES committee, please contact Steve or Kim Robb at 508-653-2868 or robbphoto@comcast.net.
