High School Building Committee Update

The Wayland High School Building Committee (HSBC) introduced its new project manager, KV Associates, at its Jan. 29 meeting.  Attending the meeting were Frank Vanzler, project principal, and David Saindon, project director.

KVA met with the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) earlier in the month along with Superintendent Gary Burton, Business Administrator Joy Buhler, and HSBC Chairwoman Lea Anderson.  KVA was approved by the MSBA as project manager for the Wayland High School project.

HMFH Architects, the selected design firm, will continue working with Wayland and the MSBA on the feasibility study and schematic design phase.  HMFH through its consultant, Frank Locker, is currently conducting an educational planning exercise with approximately 60 participants including Wayland citizens with and without children in the public schools, teachers, administrators, staff, and present and former students.

Wayland High School is one of nine schools identified by MSBA in the feasibility study and schematic design phase. The HSBC is planning to conduct this phase over the next six months.

The HSBC will build on previous work and look with fresh eyes on changed circumstances, such as a revised enrollment estimate, new MSBA regulations, an updated educational specification, and new cost estimates.

The next HSBC meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the School Committee conference room on the second floor of the Wayland Town Building. The community is welcome to attend all HSBC meetings.
