Preview of the Monday, February 2 meeting agenda for the Board of Selectmen

Here is a preview of the Monday, February 2, 2009 meeting agenda for the Board of Selectmen from Town Administrator, Fred Turkington.

Immediately after convening the meeting, the Board will recess to attend the Finance Committee’s presentation of the draft FY10 operating and capital budget.  If the proposal includes a debt exclusion ballot question, the Finance Committee will make a proposal at the February 9th meeting.

The Board will interview candidates for vacancies on certain appointed boards and committees and meet in joint session with the Library Board of Trustees to consider an appointment to the April 2009 Town election of a trustee to fill the vacancy created by the death of Perry Hagenstein on December 26, 2008.

Selectmen will discuss the informal work to date of citizens volunteering to provide perspective on energy conservation efforts, alternative energy initiatives, and the idea of integrating green building concepts into future municipal construction projects.  It is likely the BOS will collect the interested citizens into a temporary advisory committee and assign specific projects and tasks that could benefit from their expertise and experience.

Town Administrator Fred Turkington will review the impact of the Governor’s budget proposals related to state aid cuts, proposed new revenue sources such as the telecommunications tax and hotels and meals tax, and elements of the Municipal Partnership Act.  He will also provide an overview of the FY10 budget draft and the series of meeting and hearings leading to Annual Town Meeting vote.  He also will report on the status of staff investigation into collaboration with Sudbury on certain programs and services.

Finally, the Board will hear an update on citizen efforts to develop a canoe and boat launch on land adjacent to the Town Center development and Selectmen Doug Leard will report on the status of work to develop a building program for senior services.
