Nomination papers available for election

Nomination papers are now available from the town clerk’s office for residents interesting in running for elected office.  Candidates are required to have at least 50 signatures to be certified for nomination and papers must be returned to the town clerk by Feb. 17.  Note that the Park & Recreation Commission will become the Recreation Commission, and the Board of Road Commissioners and the Board of Water Commissioners will be abolished, on July 1, 2009.

The following positions will be up for election (note the current incumbents):

  • Board of Selectmen (two openings) (three-year term) – Douglas Leard and William Whitney
  • School Committee (two openings) (three-year term) – Heather Pineault and Jeffrey Dieffenbach
  • Board of Assessors (two openings) (three-year term) – John Knapp and John Wilson
  • Board of Road Commissioners (two openings) (term to end June 30, 2009) – Shawn Fennelly and Anette Lewis
  • Planning Board (one opening) (five-year term) – William Steinberg
  • Planning Board association member (one opening) (five-year term) – Anette Lewis
  • Board of Water Commissioners (one opening) (term to end June 30, 2009) – Michael Keegan
  • Board of Health (two openings) (three-year term) – Simone Mordas and Mark Neuman
  • Commissioner of Trust Funds (one opening) (three-year term) – Michael Patterson
  • Library Trustees (two openings) (three-year term) – Malcolm Astley and Rosamond Swain
  • Library Trusees (one opneing) (one-year term) — to fill the vacancy due to the death of Perry Hagenstein
  • Park & Recreation Commission (two openings) (three-year term) – Stas Gayshan and Thurston Wright III
  • Housing Authority (one opening) (five-year term) – Charles Raskin
