New pool set for grand reopening in Wayland

Metrowest Daily News 11/18/10: New pool set for grand reopening in Waylan. Splish, splash! It's time to take a bath (or at least a dip) in the partly renovated and partly brand-new Wayland Community Pool next to the High School, which is set to open in early December. After years of neglect and decay, the old facility, built in 1969, was closed to the public in 2005 and shut down for team practices earlier this year. Demolition was completed in June.

Boston Globe Girls’ Swimming All-Scholastics – Winter 2009-10

Boston Globe 3/28/10: Boston Globe Girls' Swimming All-Scholastics. The Globe's Division 2 Swimmer of the Year is Wayland's Emily Wright. Wright has accrued more points than any other female swimmer in Wayland school history. The four-year DCL All-Star holds the Division 2 North sectional record in the 50 free as well as school records in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay. She will attend Bucknell University. The 200 Freestyle Relay team of Emily Wright, Emily Downs, Michelle Cunningham and Megan Pierce won its third straight Division 2 state championship. Dual County League All-Stars included Kristina Barakov, Michelle Cunningham, Emily Downs, Elizabeth Doyon, Valerie Eisenson, Saya Higano, Carolyn Jones, Emily Nuss, Megan Pierce, Jamie Reichlen and Emily Wright.

Winter All-Scholastics: 10 moments to savor

Boston Globe 3/28/10: Winter All-Scholastics: 10 moments to savor include the Wayland swim teams. A clean sweep for Wayland in pool For the Wayland swim teams, there was nothing better than a weekend dip in the Harvard pool. The boys on Saturday, followed by the girls a day later, won Division 2 state championships. It was the second straight state title for the boys, the fifth straight for the girls.

Boston Globe 2/28/10: Coach guides Wayland swimmers to win boys’ and girls’ championships, twice. It’s not that the father wished to put undue pressure on his son. It was just a subtle reminder. OK, maybe not so subtle. Last year, Mike Foley guided the Wayland High boys’ swim team to the Division 2 state title. He coaches the girls’ team too. The girls’ meet was the next day. In between meets, Foley said, “my father pointed out that nobody had ever won the boys’ and girls’ titles in the same year.’’ The girls matched the boys’ title, and Mike Foley stood alone. His dad knew a thing or two about championships. In 35 years as the swim coach at archrival Weston High, Pete Foley won 18 state titles. His son, now with seven, is chipping away. But Pete never won a state crown with the boys’ and girls’ teams in the same year. It gets better. Last weekend, at Harvard, both of his teams repeated as state champs. “I’m still in shock,’’ said Foley.
