Since Oct. 31, 2012, the Lees have 28 operational solar panels on their roof, generating an estimated 7,412 kilowatt hours per year. Last summer they signed up with the Solarize program, a joint project with Lincoln and Sudbury, which allowed them to participate in a growing renewable energy future in an economically advantageous way. They invested about $10,000 and expect a cash payback period of approximately four years. In addition to the practical advantages, they are excited to be on the cutting edge of solar power, and point out they can even track their collection rate online.

The final numbers are in for the 2012 edition of Solarize Massachusetts Program for small residential and commercial solar PV, which generate electricity from the sun’s energy. Wayland, Sudbury and Lincoln together added 137 systems totaling 1281 kW. Wayland by itself added 74 systems, totaling 659.1 kW.

Wayland Patch 9/11/12: An Online Tour Through a Solar Home. The first Solar Tour in the Solarize Lincoln-Sudbury-Wayland program, last week Saturday, was a hit. Around 30 people came to the Wolozin-Morrison house in Sudbury to get a closer look at a solar system that was installed by Astrum Solar in May (before the Solarize program kicked in) and has been running for three months now.
