Wayland Town Crier 7/20/12: NStar’s work cuts deeps, residents say. Residents and officials continued to rail against NStar on Wednesday night for clear-cutting trees near Meadowview and Oak Hill roads, hoping the utility becomes a “better neighbor” by restoring the area. Some Meadowview Road residents said during a selectmen meeting they lost as many as 30 trees on their properties in the NStar easement.

Residents and officials continued to rail against NStar on Wednesday night for the clear cutting of trees earlier this summer in the area of Meadowview and Oak Hill roads, hoping the utility becomes a “better neighbor” moving forward in restoring the vegetation.

Part 1: Nstar Representatives Address Mitigation Plans. Wayland residents and officials asked plenty of questions Wednesday night as representatives from Nstar made another appearance in town related to clear-cutting under transmission lines through the Oak Hill Road and Meadowview Road neighborhoods.  The questions were largely related to how Nstar will care for the neighbors and land impacted when the utility cleared the right-of-way that runs from Framingham, through Wayland and into Sudbury; however, some confusion over Nstar’s plans to use herbicides in town also emerged.

Woodchips Help Fuel Sunday Brush Fire

Wayland Patch 7/16/12: Woodchips Help Fuel Sunday Brush Fire. Firefighters were unable to determine a specific cause for a brush fire Sunday on Stonebridge Road, but they said woodchips left behind after Nstar's recent clear-cutting under high-tension lines helped fuel the flames. Wayland Fire Chief Vinnie Smith said the first call came in at 11:01 a.m. Sunday. The radio report indicated someone had spotted smoke in the area.

Wayland 1/15/12: Wayland firefighters battle brush fire for four hours. Fresh wood chips laid recently by NStar helped fuel a brush fire on Stonebridge Road yesterday, a fire official said. The blaze happened on the south side of Stonebridge Road, said fire Lt. Jim Gemelli said, in a half-acre area under NStar power lines.

Wayland Patch 7/10/12: Mitigation, Wellheads and Profits Among Questions for Nstar. The trees are gone, but the questions remain.

Monday night Wayland’s Board of Selectmen discussed the myriad of questions it wants to pose to Nstar representatives when they return to Wayland for a public meeting on Wednesday, July 18.

The bulk of the trees and vegetation have already been cleared from under the transmission lines that run through Wayland’s Oak Hill and Meadowview roads area, but Nstar has said it plans to mitigate that removal through stump grinding and plantings in previously landscaped areas that were cleared.
