River’s Edge proposal fails at Wayland Town Meeting
Wayland Town Crier 4/18/13: River’s Edge proposal fails at Wayland Town Meeting. A number of factors coalesced at Town Meeting last week to block passage of two articles that would have allowed the proposed 216-unit River’s Edge affordable and market-rate rental housing project to go forward on the site of the former Wayland-Sudbury septic facility on Route 20. Under the proposal, 25 percent of the units would have been affordable, and a minimum of two-thirds would have been age-restricted with at least one occupant 55 or over. Economic Development Committee members said the project was envisaged as the solution to a number of issues in town, such as providing new revenue from the sale of the land and new annual tax revenue, and providing independent senior housing for residents who might otherwise have to leave town to find it.
